Our first
priority is to ensure that the plot of land has adequate drainage.
If there is a small stream running
through the plot of land we ensure that the stream is not blocked and that the water
can flow as quickly as possible through the land.
We may
slightly increase the width and depth of a stream where possible and also remove
obstructions from the water to prevent future flooding.
During the summer months if water
levels are low we concentrate on securing the boundary fencing first if there
are no obvious potential flooding problems.
We would remove the branches and
stones from this stream above to enable it to flow more easily through the
land.
This stream above has fairly high
banks that would prevent any major flooding but we would remove the dead trunk and some of the larger stones.
The picture above is an example of
how we widen streams to enable them to flow more freely. Whenever possible we dig
the sides of the banks into a nice 'V' shape.
The banks of this stream could use a
good tidy up.
This small stream may not look like
much of a problem but during the winter months it could easily flood the
surrounding land. We would widen the stream by one or two feet to prevent this
from happening.
